Samantha Miller
As a student about to graduate high school, I’ve had lots of experience with bullying. Whether it was me getting bullied, me bullying, or making a stand with anti-bullying. Yes, I’m not perfect and I’ve been the bully in relationships. This role made me realize that my life isn’t to hurt others or make people around me feel excluded. I wanted to make a difference in my community. Anti-bullying plays a big role in schools, homes, and communities. People of all ages from anywhere in the world can participate in promoting anti-bullying. Although bullying occurs more in schools than in other places and is more relevant to students, bullying happens everywhere and includes everyone in a community. We need to make a stand as more and more people are taking their lives as a result of this preventable problem. The effect bullying has on students is a significant topic and needs to be addressed with care.
I’ve had the opportunity to create pieces (Persuasion Effect project, Flash Memoir, and Information Effect Project) to address my social issue and bring awareness to people in my community. These projects are meant to inform, persuade people, and portray what life is like when we are bullied or are actively trying to make a difference. My Flash Memoir goes into a memory I’ve had while trying to stand up to bullying and be the change in my school. The Persuasion Effect project I wrote was meant to reach those who may have been the bully and persuade them to see how it affects those who have been bullied. The last project I will demonstrate in this magazine is my Information Effect project. This project shares valuable information regarding my social issue. All of these projects provide worthwhile details about the effects bullying has on people, something that everyone should read and understand. The more people understand the importance of this topic, the more people will want to make a difference. Now that you know a little bit more as to what is included in this magazine, I hope that you will be able to see what I see and want to make a difference as well. This magazine provides the different ways I chose to depict my social issue and shows the different stages of my writing and how I revise each project. My purpose throughout this magazine is to bring awareness and understanding to those who are affected by bullying. This rising issue needs to be better addressed in schools, offices, and homes and needs a community that is willing to come together to help promote anti-bullying. I hope this magazine will help open your eyes and give many the knowledge and power to help make a difference. |
